It's Mouthguard Season

We are pleased to be able to provide custom-fitted mouth protectors this year for the football teams of Booth Middle School and Rising Starr Middle School. Booth players came to our office early in the summer to get fitted, and we are preparing to go to Rising Starr two afternoons next week to fit their players.

We do this because I like to help the community and I think a properly fitting mouthguard is a very important piece of equipment for many types of athletes, from football and basketball players, to soccer players, and in any sport where there is a chance of dental injury or concussion.

It is the cushioning effect preventing the back teeth from snapping together that is the most important aspect. That added vertical space between the back teeth is what prevents concussions. You don't a concussion happening to you!

So we urge you to get and wear a mouthguard whenever you are involved in a contact sport. We usually recommend the Shock Doctor guard, or any guard your coach recommends. If you are in orthodontic tratment, please be sure it fits comfortably around your braces without too much pressure on them, and that it will allow for your teeth to continue to get straighter, and not prevent alignment.

So enjoy your sports, but protect your teeth!
